Upload
Upload files from your computer into Drive, and upload a new version in place of the old file.
This page helps you upload files from your computer into Drive, and upload a new version in place of the old file.
Upload files
- Open My drive, or the folder that will hold the files.
- Drag files from your computer onto the Drive page, or right-click an empty space, choose New item, then choose Upload files.
- Watch the progress in the panel at the bottom right.
Files you upload are yours, and get the same sharing as the folder they are in.
Follow the uploads
- A cloud with a check mark means done.
- A cloud with an exclamation mark means it failed. Click the retry button in that row.
- Click x at the top of the panel to close it. If an upload is not finished, Drive asks first. Click Continue uploads or Cancel uploads.
Upload a new version
Use this when you want to change what is inside the file but keep its name, place and sharing.
- Right-click the file and choose Upload new version.
- Pick the new file from your computer.
The new file must be the same kind as the old one, for example a PDF in place of a PDF. You need the Writer access level or higher.
Other cases
- If you upload into someone else's folder, you need the Writer access level or higher, and the owner of the folder also gets the Organizer access level on your file.
- A data file, such as CSV or GeoJSON, can be imported as a table.
