Apps and Marketplace

Install Apps for everyone on the site, change an App's address and uninstall it.

This page installs Apps from the Apps page of Configuration, which is the site's Marketplace. An installed App appears in everyone's Launcher.

Your role needs Can manage apps. Without it, you do not see the Apps menu (Roles).

Core Apps and optional Apps

Every site has six core Apps installed from the start: Portal, Account, Configuration, Drive, Data Studio and Log Monitoring. Core Apps cannot be uninstalled, so a core App's page shows Core app — always installed instead of the Uninstall button.

Form Studio, Map Studio and App Studio are optional Apps. A new site does not have them yet. Install them yourself if you want to use them.

Install an App

  1. Open Apps and go to the Browse tab.
  2. Find the App. You can type in the Search apps box or pick a category.
  3. Press Install on that App.
  4. Read What this app can do in the box that appears, then press Install again to confirm.

The page shows a message such as "Map Studio is installed." and the App moves to the Installed tab. It can take up to 2 minutes for the App to appear in everyone's Launcher.

The system makes the App's OAuth client itself when it installs the App. You do not create one. For now you can install only official Apps, which are in the Browse tab.

Change an App's address

Normally an App opens at the site's address followed by the App's name, for example https://<your-site>/map-studio/. If the server administrator has put the App somewhere else, change the address as follows.

  1. On the Apps page, press the App's name to open its page.
  2. Open Advanced.
  3. Type the new address in the App address box. It can be a full web address such as https://reports.example.com/, or a path on this site that starts with /.
  4. Press Check address. If it says "The app answered at this address.", the address works.
  5. Press Save address.

The page shows a message such as "The address of Map Studio was saved." For a full web address, the system adds it to the App's sign-in itself. You do not have to edit it on the OAuth clients page.

You can set the address of an App that is not installed yet in the same way. Set it before you press Install. To go back to the normal address, press Use the default address.

Uninstall an App

  1. Open the App's page and press Uninstall.
  2. Press Uninstall in the confirmation box.

The App disappears from everyone's Launcher. Everything people made with this App stays in Drive. People who have the App open are not forced to sign out.

Install an App again

Install it again from the Browse tab. The App uses its old sign-in, so you do not have to set anything up again. An address you changed earlier goes back to the normal address. If you need another address, set it under Advanced before you press Install.

If an install or save fails

MessageWhat to do
"This app cannot be installed: a client the platform did not make already has its id. Delete that client first."Another OAuth client already has the same id as this App. That client is not on the OAuth clients page, so you cannot delete it from Configuration. Tell the server administrator (Troubleshooting).
"This app cannot be installed on this site."The App is not official. For now only official Apps can be installed.
"This change is not allowed. Check the address and try again."The address must start with https://, http:// or /, and must not contain a space, ?, # or ...
"You do not have permission to manage apps."Ask an administrator to add Can manage apps to your role.
