Field types

What each kind of component stores, and what you can set on it.

This page helps you choose the component that matches the data you want to store, and set it up so it is easy to fill in.

Which components there are

Each kind of component can store into only one type of field. The component's card says which in Field type.

Common settings

Press the gear icon, Settings, on the component, then look in the Settings panel.

SettingResult
DescriptionThe name of the box that people filling in see
PlaceholderFaint text in the empty box, saying what to enter
Default valueA value put in beforehand
RequiredMakes it compulsory. While it is empty, the Submit button cannot be pressed
ReadonlyPeople filling in see the value but cannot change it
DisabledThe box is grey and cannot be used

The Styles panel changes the Color and the Component style. The Preview panel shows what the box really looks like.

Some components lack some of these. For example, Checkbox and Switch have no Required.

Set the choices to pick from

  1. Open Settings on the Select component, then open Options.
  2. In the empty row at the end of the table, type the Value that is stored in the table and the Text that people filling in see.
  3. Press the plus button at the end of the row.
  4. Repeat until done. Drag a row to reorder, or press the trash icon to delete an option.

Numbers

  • Number field and Slider let you set a Min value and a Max value.
  • Rating lets you set the number of stars in Length, from 1 to 10.

In a Number field, if the person filling in types a number above the Max value, the form still accepts it without warning, because these two values control only the arrow buttons. To really limit the range, use a Slider.

Choose records from another table

One-to-one select picks one record. One-to-many select picks several records.

The person filling in chooses like this:

  1. Press the icon at the end of the box. The Select data window opens.
  2. Type in the Search data box and press Enter.
  3. Click the record you want, then press Select.

Files and pictures

In Settings of File input:

  • File type: choose Any, Images or Documents. Documents are Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files.
  • Tick Multiple to allow more than one file to be attached.

Files are sent with the answer when Submit is pressed. If a file is larger than the field accepts, the box says "File is too large" and the Submit button cannot be pressed.

Text

Use it to put a heading or an instruction in the form. Type in the Value box, then adjust the Size, Alignment and Weight of the letters in the Styles panel.
