Create a form
Create a new form, name it, and choose the table that will store the answers.
This page helps you create a new form, name it and choose the table that will store the answers.
Before you start
- The table that will store the answers
- The Item organizer, Organizer or Owner permission on that table
Create a form in Form Studio
- In the list of forms, press the first card, Create a new.
- Wait for the editor to open with a form named Untitled form.
The form is in the top level of My Drive. To keep it in a folder, create it from Drive or move it later.
Create a form in Drive
- In Drive, open the folder where the form should live.
- Right-click an empty spot, choose New item, then choose Form.
Form Studio opens in a new tab with the form created in that folder.
Name the form
- Type a name in the Form title box. People filling it in see this name as the heading.
- If you want, type a short instruction in the Description box.
Do not leave Form title empty. If it is empty, the form is not saved.
Choose the primary table
The Primary table is the table that stores the answers. Every time someone submits the form, this table gets one new record.
- Press the Primary table box.
- In the Select an item window, find the table in the My Drive or Shared with me tab, or type in the Search items box.
- Click the table, then press Select.
Choose the primary table before you add components. If you change the table later, components that cannot find their old field in the new table need a new field. See Components with a red border.
Let people correct answers through the form
To let people using this form edit records that were already submitted, tick Data editable. See Correct a record through the form.
Saving
The form saves by itself every time you make a change. There is no save button. The status is at the bottom of the top card.
- Saving...: it is saving.
- All changes saved in Drive: saving is done.
If a red message appears, such as "Network Error", it was not saved. The form does not retry by itself. Change something to save again, or reload the page and check the form is complete.
Next: design the form.
