Folders and new Items

Create folders, databases, forms, web maps and applications, move in and out of folders, and open an Item in another app.

This page helps you create folders and new Items in Drive, and open each kind of Item.

Create a folder

  1. Open My drive, or the folder that will hold the new folder.
  2. Right-click an empty space and choose New folder.
  3. Type a Name and click Create.

To create one inside someone else's folder, you need the Writer access level or higher.

  • Double-click a folder to go inside.
  • The bar at the top shows where you are. Click a folder name in the bar to go back to that folder.
  • If the path is long, the folders in the middle shrink into a three-dot button. Click it and choose a folder.
  • Click the last name in the bar, the one with a small arrow, to open the menu of the current folder, for example New folder and New item.

Create a database, form, web map or application

  1. Open the folder that will hold the new Item.
  2. Right-click an empty space and choose New item.
