Import data
Bring data from an uploaded file, such as CSV or shapefile, into a table in a database.
This page helps you turn an uploaded data file into a table in your database.
Import a file
- Upload the data file to Drive.
- Right-click the file and choose Import into.
- Click the Target item field and choose the database that will hold the table.
- Under Importable collections, click Import beside the table or layer you want.
- Click Import again to confirm.
When it finishes, the button changes to Imported and the new table is in that database. One file can hold several tables. Click Import for one table at a time.
Files you can import
CSV, TSV, Excel, ODS, GeoJSON, KML, KMZ, GPX, GeoPackage, FlatGeobuf, and zip files with a shapefile inside. If you right-click a file and do not see Import into, that file cannot be imported.
A CSV or Excel file with longitude and latitude columns becomes a table of points on a map.
Who can import
You need the Item organizer access level or higher on the file, and Organizer or higher on the destination database.
See the result
Open the database in Data Studio to see the new table. If the import failed, the Activity tab of the file shows could not import data from in red, with the reason.
