Add a basemap

Add OpenStreetMap or Google Maps as a basemap and put it under your data

Map Studio has no basemap switch. You add a basemap yourself as a layer and put it at the bottom. A new map may already have one, so check the left sidebar first.

Add OpenStreetMap

  1. Click Add layer, then choose Map service.
  2. In Service type, choose OpenStreetMap in the Basemaps group.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Move this layer to the bottom. See Put the basemap at the bottom.

Add Google Maps

  1. Click Add layer, then choose Map service.
  2. In Service type, choose Google Maps.
  3. Enter your API key in the API Key box, then set Type to Street, Satellite, Hybrid or Terrain.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Move this layer to the bottom. Google Maps must always be at the bottom.

Map Studio does not provide a Google Maps API key. You have to get one from Google. To change the key or the type later, use Edit source. See Change a layer's source.

Put the basemap at the bottom

A new layer goes on top and covers everything below it. After you add a basemap, drag it down to the last row, or click ⋮ and choose Move down until it is at the bottom. See Change the order of layers.

Other basemaps

Other map services, such as PM tiles or a MapLibre Style, can also be used as a basemap. See Add a map service.
