Manage layers
Turn layers on and off, reorder, group, rename, set opacity and delete them
All the layers are in the left sidebar of the editor. A layer higher up is drawn over a layer lower down, and a newly added layer always goes to the top.
Turn a layer on or off
Tick the box next to a layer to show it, or untick it to hide it. This setting is saved with the map, so everyone who opens the map sees the same. If you hide a group, every layer in the group is hidden too.
Open a layer's panel
Click the layer name and the settings panel opens on the right. Every layer has a Settings tab. The other tabs depend on the kind of layer, as in this table.
| Layer | Styles | Filters | Edit source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Data from Drive | Yes | Yes | No |
| PM tile layer that is vector | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| PM tile layer that is raster | No | No | Yes |
| Vector tile from Tile URL (auto-detect) | Yes | No | No |
| ArcGIS feature layer | Yes | No | Yes |
| Raster tile, TomTom, HERE, ArcGIS tile, ArcGIS map image, Google Maps, MapLibre Style | No | No | Yes |
| OpenStreetMap, OGC WMS, OGC WMTS, OGC WFS, groups | No | No | No |
A PM tile file with several source layers appears as a group. Click each sub-layer to set its style and filters.
Rename a layer
- Click the layer name to open the panel.
- Click the name at the top of the panel, type the new name, then press Enter.
Opacity and visible range
- Click the layer name, then open the Settings tab.
- Under Display, drag the Opacity bar between 0 and 100 %.
- Drag both handles of Visible range to choose the zoom levels the layer shows at, for example z3 to z14.
If the layer is in a group, the group's opacity and visible range apply to the layer as well.
Change the order of layers
- Drag the handle in front of the row to a new position.
- Or click ⋮ at the end of the row and choose Move up or Move down. Right-clicking the row gives the same menu.
Put layers in groups
- Click Add layer, then choose New group. A group named
Untitled groupappears at the top. - Click the group name, then rename it in the panel.
- Drag a layer to the group's row and drop it just under the group name, a little to the right. If the layer's row is indented, it is in the group.
If you drop it exactly on the group's handle, the layer goes beside the group instead. Drag it again.
Delete a layer
- Click ⋮ at the end of the layer's row and choose Delete.
- Click Delete in the Delete? window.
This only removes the layer from this map. The data in Drive is still all there. If you delete a group, the layers in it are removed too.
