Who can do what
The role you need in Data Studio for each task, and why a button may be missing
Data Studio only shows the buttons and menus that your role allows. If a button is missing, you do not have the role it needs. Ask the owner of the item to share it with you. See Share.
Roles
From lowest to highest: Reader, Commenter, Writer, Item organizer, Organizer and Owner. The owner is the person who created the item. Other people get a role when someone shares the item with them.
The role you need
Each row needs the role listed, or a higher one.
| What you do | Lowest role |
|---|---|
| View, open, search, filter, export and see the schema | Reader |
| Add and edit records | Writer |
| Delete records | Item organizer |
| Import data into a table | Item organizer |
| Change the schema, and a view's aggregation | Item organizer |
| Rename and share | Item organizer |
| Move and delete items | Organizer |
| Create items in a database | Organizer |
| Create tables from a file in a database | Organizer |
The Make a copy menu shows for everyone who can open the item, but it only works if you are an Item organizer or higher on the item, and an Organizer or higher on the item's database.
Importing from a file also needs you to be an Item organizer or higher on the file. See Import data.
