The geometry field

Put a map in the form so people can drop a point, draw a line or draw an area.

This page helps you put a map in the form so people filling it in can drop a point, draw a line or draw an area, and store it in the primary table's Geometry field.

Set up the component

  1. Add a Geometry editor, then press Settings.
  2. In Field, choose the primary table's Geometry field.
  3. Check the Geometry type box: is it Point, Line or Polygon? If it is empty, choose one yourself.
  4. To use a different background map, choose one in the Web map box. If you do not, the form uses the platform's Default web map.

Without a Geometry type, the map appears but people filling in have no Draw button.

Drop a point or draw a shape

This step is for the person filling in the form.

  1. Press Draw.
  2. Click on the map.
    • Point: click where you want it, then press Done.
    • Line or Polygon: click one corner at a time, then click the last corner again to finish the shape.

A line or Polygon can have only one shape. If you press Draw again, the old shape disappears. To get it back, press Undo under the map.

Find a place

  1. In the Search coordinates or place box, type a place name of at least three characters and choose a place that appears, or type coordinates with the latitude first, for example 13.7563, 100.5018.
  2. Press Mark. The map moves there and drops a pin.
  3. For a Point, press Use to make that place the answer.

The pin from Mark only helps you find the place. It is not saved.

To use the place where you are now, press the crosshair icon at the end of the box. The browser asks for permission first.

This box accepts coordinates in DD, DMS, DDM, UTM and MGRS. If you type UTM without a zone, it is taken as zone 47 North. Place names are searched in OpenStreetMap, so the text you type is sent to that service.

Edit a shape you drew

  1. Press Edit.
  2. Drag the whole shape, or drag a corner point, to move it.
  3. Press Done.

For a Point, right-click the point to delete it.

Undo and clear

Under the map are Undo and Redo buttons. The x button clears every shape. If you cleared by mistake, press Undo.

Measure distance and area

  1. Press the ruler icon at the top right of the map.
  2. Choose Distance or Area.
  3. Choose a unit in Measurement unit, such as Kilometers or ไร่ งาน ตารางวา.
  4. Press Start, then click on the map.
  5. Press Stop when you have finished measuring.

Measurements are for looking at only. They are not sent with the answer.
