Relationships
Link a field of one table to the records of another table, and choose the linked records in the form
A relationship field points to records of another table. A One to one relationship points to one record. A One to many relationship points to several records.
Create a relationship field
You must be an Item organizer or higher on the table.
- Open the table and click Schema.
- Click Add field, type a Display name, and set Type to One to one relationship or One to many relationship.
- Click Related item, choose a table, view or collection, then click Select.
- Choose the Value field and the Display field. You must choose both.
- Click OK, then click Save.
The Value field is the field whose value is stored in your record. The Display field is the field shown to people when they choose. For example, a land parcel table points to an owner table. It stores the owner's code and shows the owner's name.
Choose the linked records
- In the form, click the relationship field's box. See The form.
- In the Select data window, type in Search data and press Enter to find records.
- Tick a record (several, if it is one to many), then click Select.
A one-to-many field shows the chosen records as chips. Click the x on a chip to remove it. Manage data opens the related table in a new tab.
Read and filter
In the table, a one-to-one field shows the value of the display field (such as a country name), not the value of the value field (such as a country code). A one-to-many field has a View <field name> button that opens the values as JSON.
You can filter both kinds. See Search, sort and filter. You can only sort a one-to-one field.
