Place and arrange widgets

Add widgets to a dashboard, then move, resize, hide, lock and delete them.

This page helps you place widgets on a dashboard and get their position and size right. You do this in the editor.

The editor has three parts. On the left are the Fields and Widgets tabs. In the middle is the dashboard. On the right are the settings of the selected widget.

Add a widget

  1. Click the Widgets tab on the left.
  2. Drag a widget onto the dashboard, or click it to place it in the first free space.
  3. Choose the data in the panel on the right.

A widget with no data yet says Needs configuration.

To choose the data first and let App Studio pick the chart for you, see Start from fields.

Move and resize

  1. Click the widget. A small bar appears on its top edge.
  2. Drag that bar to move the widget.
  3. Drag an edge or a corner to resize it.

Widgets snap to the grid and to the edges of nearby widgets. To turn this off, hold Alt while you drag.

Layer, hide and lock

Click the widget, then use the buttons in the panel on the right.

  • Bring forward and Send backward are at the bottom of the panel. Use them when widgets overlap.
  • Hide removes the widget from the dashboard in both the editor and the viewer. Press Show to bring it back.
  • Lock stops the widget from being moved or resized. You can still change its settings.

Duplicate or delete

The widget's top bar has Duplicate and Delete buttons. If you delete one by mistake, press Undo at the top right.

Undo and redo

Undo and Redo are at the top right of the editor. You can undo up to 50 steps, and not further back than when you opened the dashboard.
