Import playground

Try importing a file one layer at a time, and see what the file has to import.

This page helps you see which layers a file has and import them one at a time. For ordinary imports, use Data Studio.

An import here is real. The data in the target table really changes.

Open this page

This page is not in the menu. In your browser's address bar, add /playground/import to the end of App Studio's address.

Choose a file

Under Source file, press Upload a file to choose a file from your computer, or press Choose from Drive.

If it says "This file has no import info...", this kind of file cannot be imported yet, or the file could not be read. Try another file.

Choose a layer

The table lists the layers in the file, with each layer's Geometry, Features and Fields. Click the circle in front of the layer to import. You can import one layer at a time.

Choose the target and import

  1. In Mode, choose Replace all data, Append new data only, Update existing data only or Append and update data.
  2. Press Choose a table and choose the target table.
  3. Read the message "... of ... fields matched by name". Fields in the file go to the fields with the same name in the table.
  4. Press Start import.

If you chose a mode that updates data and you also want to update shapes, tick Also update the geometry of existing rows.

This page cannot use the New table in a database mode yet, because you cannot choose a database here. Create the table in Data Studio instead.

Follow the result

The Job log shows progress. When it finishes, it says "Done:" with the counts, for example "3 inserted, 0 updated, 0 deleted, 1 skipped". If any rows were skipped, the page gives the reason.

If the import fails, it says "Failed:" with the reason.
