Share a map
Choose who can open or edit a map, then send the link
A map is an item in Drive, so you share it the same way as any other item. For the roles in detail, see Drive.
Open the share window
- In the editor, click the person icon, Share, in the left sidebar.
- On the All maps page, click the ⋮ button on the card, then choose Share.
The Share button is only there for maps you can edit.
Choose who can open the link
- Click the Share as button at the top of the Item sharing window.
- Choose Private to let only the people and groups you added open it, Internal to let everyone who is signed in open it, or Public to also let apps that use an API key read the map. If an administrator turns on Public access, people who are not signed in can also view the map in the Portal.
- Click Apply.
Add people and groups
- Click Add users and groups.
- Search for and choose a person or group. Choose a role with the button below. The default is Reader. Then click Add.
- To change a role, click the role button next to the name and choose a new one. To remove someone, choose Remove.
- Click Apply.
Who can edit the map
Give the role Item organizer or higher to the people who need to edit the map. Writer, Commenter and Reader can only open the viewer. They can turn layers on and off for themselves, but cannot edit the map.
Send the link
- Click Copy link.
- Send the link to the people you want.
The link does not give any access by itself. The person who opens it must be signed in, and must be someone you shared the map with, or the map must be shared as Internal or Public. A map that is Public on a platform with Public access turned on can be viewed in the Portal by people who are not signed in, without opening Map Studio.
